Portia & Josh’s Central Coast Engagement Session

As a Central Coast engagement photographer, one of my favourite things to do is show my clients some of my favourite locations. The Entrance is a very popular location for couples to do their maternity and family sessions. I, however, LOVE to use it for my couples. The long grass, the towering trees and the golden light make for the perfect backdrop for a candid couples session.

Portia and Josh were the perfect couple to use this backdrop for. Their easy-going personalities, laid-back attitudes and playful personalities were a lot of fun and made for a perfect candid session. One of the perks of this location is how big the area is. There is room to run around, to play and explore different textures so that the final gallery has depth and details while still being cohesive.

One of the things I love about being a couples photographer is exploring the different personalities on the couples I get to work with. Some sessions like this one are light and playful, full of a lot of banter. Others are quiet, poised and a little more serious. Some are big, bold and adventurous. At the end of the day, as a Central Coast engagement photographer, my main goal is to create imagery that is reflective of the couples I work with.

I want the photos to look and feel like the couple. To create a bond with my couples so they feel comfortable in front of the camera, and their love can shine through.

For Portia & Josh’s couples session, we headed down towards Picnic Point Reserve as the sun was setting. The golden light shone through the trees, and honestly, I am very proud of the work that we produced together. As the sun set, you could feel the ease that Portia and Josh had together. They were comfortable, and that is what makes for great photos. Yes, lighting, poses etc, all help. But being comfortable with your partner is the biggest and most important part of creating memorable couples portraits.

As a Central Coast wedding and engagement photographer, I can confirm this. I have worked with many couples over the years, and everything can be perfect, but if the couple are feeling uncomfortable during their wedding or their engagement session, the photos are missing something. They are missing the connection and depth that is so important when creating couples portraits, thankfully for Portia and Josh. This was not the case.

I’m excited to continue creating imagery that represents the couples I work with. It truly is the greatest honour
