Proposing to your partner is one of the most emotional moments in your life. Think about it, you’re not only professing your love to your literal soulmate. You’re saying ‘Hey, you’re my person, I cannot think about my life without you by my side’. It’s a beautiful moment, but it also causes a lot of stress and anxiety about how to get the perfect proposal. Firstly I just want to say, there is no such thing as a perfect proposal. Life is perfectly imperfect, and your proposal will be too and the sooner you acknowledge this, the easier you will find this whole process. My name is Kayla and I’m a Central Coast proposal photographer, and I am here to give you a few tips and tricks to make the process go a little smoother for you.

This may seem obvious. Obviously, you’re thinking about your partner, you’re thinking about how much you love them, and how you want everyone in the world to know. But think about what your partner likes, their personality, their interests.

If you’re partner is introverted, a public proposal will probably not be on the cards, so scrap the idea of doing it in front of your loved ones, at a party, a football game. Maybe it could be a cozy night in, watching movies with popcorn and hot chocolate, watching the sunset, on holiday. Sit down and really think about what your partner would want this moment to be like. You want it to be memorable, but not in a way that throws them off guard or makes them uncomfortable

Choose somewhere special to you as a couple

Do you have a favourite lookout? I know I do, and to share a moment like this with my partner would be incredible. Imagine, watching the sunset with a glass of wine and when the time feels right, you get on one knee and you ask that big question. Sounds pretty incredible right? Now think about why it felt special. Was it the comfort you both felt being at your favourite place? Was it the view? What was to that made this feel special?

As a Central Coast proposal photographer, this is my favourite scenario. However this doesn’t have to be a lookout, like I mentioned earlier. This could be done in the comfort of your home having a movie day. It doesn’t have to be a huge gesture, find what is special to you and your partner, and find a way to make it work. It could be as simple as a beach walk, or as impressive as crossing the finish line of a marathon together.

Hire a professional

Hiring a proposal photographer is one of the best ways to make this experience memorable. It’s a shame more people don’t, but at the same time, it’s understandable why. Adding extra stress to the day is probably the last thing people want to add. However, on the flip side, hiring a secret proposal photographer and following up with an engagement session is a great way to alleviate the stress.

First things first, memories fade, but the photos will last. Yes, you can capture the photos yourself, but added this stress to make sure the camera is lined up in the right spot, are they getting suspicious, did I run out of memory, did my phone just die? These are all very real scenarios that hiring a photographer will alleviate. There are a few scenarios you can use, either a couples session as a rouse or a photographer waiting at the location for the moment to happen.

A photographer also does the hard work for you. You won’t need to worry about the location scouting, the lighting or anything. Ensure you have a meeting before the big day, to ensure you’re on the same page, however, a photographer will know the best time for lighting at your favourite location and will help you make it beautiful, so you only need to worry about popping the question.

It allows you to be in the moment. You don’t need to worry about anything if you’re hiring an engagement photographer. They worry about the nitty gritty, and you can be in the moment with your partner, ask the question when you’re really and let the emotions flow.
